Day 1 – Integrating OS X

Local Directory Structure
To fully understand how OS X works with other directory systems, we need to understand how directory services in OS X have changed from previous versions and how what attributes need to be fulfilled for a successful login.

Introduction to dscl & opendirectoryd
Following on from the first part, this section utilises the command line to access and explore directory services and shows how opendirectoryd differs from it’s predecessor, DirectoryService.

Integrating OS X into OS X Server environment using Managed Preferences/Profile Manager
These sections look at the different ways that OS X can be managed and what sort of things can be done locally vs centrally.

Integrating OS X into AD
Looks at the implications of using Active Directory and how OS X can be integrated without using 3rd party software.

Day 2 – Integrating OS X Server

Server setup & Configuration
An overview of the various prerequisites that need to be in place if you want to manage Macs via OS X Server.

OD Roles & Profile Manager
We look at the various roles that OS X Server can adopt and how they interact with Profile Manager.

Integrating OS X Server in existing OD/AD
What you can and cannot do with your existing DS infrastructure and how to best manage the introduction of OS X Server.

Making the Magic Triangle work
Utilises all of the previous topics and brings them together to show how best to incorporate Macs into an AD environment by using the Magic Triangle method of integration.

Doel

Able to understand integration of OS X and OS X Server in to existing Open Directory and Active Directory environments.

• Must be an ACTC 10.5 or later or have equivalent knowledge.
• Recommend that students attend either or both of OS X 101 Support Essentials and OS X 201 Server Essentails before hand.
